Conflagratio mundi. Apocalyptic and Aristotelianism in Thomas Aquinas. This paper shows that Aquinas developed a theory of cosmic conflagration, ultimately justified on the basis of the theocentric nature of creation. The apocalyptic moment is an integral part of the project of divine wisdom, constituting its extreme revelation and final realization. Therefore, it can only disclose the authentic apotheosis of the world, making conflagration the instrument of this radical deification. Aquinas considers this instrument within the framework of a structured perception of the world, rooted in medieval culture and Aristotelian knowledge.

Abstract
Conflagratio mundi. Apocalyptic and Aristotelianism in Thomas Aquinas. This paper shows that Aquinas developed a theory of cosmic conflagration, ultimately justified on the basis of the theocentric nature of creation. The apocalyptic moment is an integral part of the project of divine wisdom, constituting its extreme revelation and final realization. Therefore, it can only disclose the authentic apotheosis of the world, making conflagration the instrument of this radical deification. Aquinas considers this instrument within the framework of a structured perception of the world, rooted in medieval culture and Aristotelian knowledge.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
