In urban areas, the artificialization of the environment, carried out without specific bio-ecological criteria and logics, has determined a wide spectrum of problems contrasting with a sustainable and eco-efficient environmental transformation of the anthropic environment. These problems relate on the one hand to the degradation of the biophysical conditions of the environment with particular reference to soil consumption, the impoverishment of components and vegetation systems, the pollution of soils and water; on the other hand, the degradation of the environmental conditions of a microclimatic level that make liveability in urban areas difficult, especially in terms of air quality and thermal comfort, in particular due to heat islands. In this context, the implementation of urban regeneration actions specifically aimed at addressing and / or mitigating the impoverishment of naturalness and the definition of specific ecosystem services through the development of green infrastructures, from urban green spaces and areas to wetlands, assumes strategic importance. multifunctional integrated and in urban settings, from urban forests to roofs and green walls. Urban and environmental regeneration has in fact reliable methodologies to contain the harmful effects and actively adaptation and mitigation processes relying on a growing availability of data and digital instrumentation that has an indepth reading of the city in its characteristics of vulnerability and potential in relation to multiscale and multidisciplinary dimension with an expansion of knowledge and the possibility of success of the interventions. The experiences made by cities on the international scene are part of this heritage and were the first to move on sustainability and resilience by analyzing their best practices, the objectives pursued, the adaptation strategies and actions, the solutions adopted and the implementation processes
