Il capriccio come progetto rubano. Hubert Robert e il porto di Ripetta

Sketches and paintings made by Hubert Robert during his long Roman stay in the mid-eighteenth century testify to the search for partial and unpublished views and a sensitivity to urban themes that promotes a use of the architectural capriccio, which was a genre of great commercial success, in a critical key. The analysis of the works through which it re-arrange the Port of Ripetta demonstrates his ability to combine Roman monuments and, at the same time, to investigate their nature and typological roots.

Gli schizzi e dipinti prodotti da Hubert Robert durante il lungo soggiorno romano alla metà del Settecento testimoniano la ricerca di scorci parziali e inediti e una sensibilità ai temi urbani che promuove un uso del capriccio architettonico, un genere di grande successo commerciale, in chiave critica. L’analisi delle opere attraverso cui rielabora il Porto di Ripetta dimostra la sua capacità di combinare i monumenti romani e, allo stesso tempo, di indagarne la natura e le radici tipologiche.
