Compiling an anthology is always a heavy and risky job, mainly when the ambitious as well as worthy of praise goal is to bring together, under a single title, literary texts that are from different but closely related geographic areas, such as those of the Middle East. Stephan Guth, an expert professor of modern and contemporary Arabic literature at the University of Oslo, had the courage to embark upon this undertaking, completing a decidedly meritorious and stimulating work, although it leaves the reader in some perplexity
