Between 1945 and 1948, Italian Jews witnessed, with growing participation, the events that led to the birth of the State of Israel, Widely differentiated positions coexisted in the communities, but the Union of the Italian Jewish Communities took a stand in support of the creation of a Jewish State. The UN vote of November 29, 1947 and the birth of Israel were accompanied by significant participation in synagogue ceremonies and demonstration of jubilation. Some intervened in the debate on the constitutional organization of the new State. A hundred young people volunteered when the conflict broke out. Others started a public debate on the relationship between the real Israel and the dream of Israel. However, real awarness of the meaning of the event only matured through the expperiences of the following years, exploding with the Six Days War of 1967.
