This paper focuses on a few Italian scholars in Oriental languages, thus aiming to outline the early history of Oriental studies in Italian academic institutions. It also focuses on the cultural and political context and on a few prominent figures, such as Terenzio Mamiani, Alessandro D’Ancona, and Ruggiero Bonghi, who contributed to the construction of the national education system.
