La conversione del principe bulgaro Boris-Michail (852-907). Riconsiderazioni sulle fonti

Prince Boris of Bulgaria’s christening is the subject of many ancient Latin and Greek documents which survived centuries, and we can still refer to today, in order to understand how Boris’s choice between the Roman Church and the Byzantine Church evolved. They also give us an important information on the question raised by the embracement of a new faith in IXth century Bulgaria. The paper deals with this topic on the basis of several documents: Annales Bertiniani, Annales Fuldenses and some of Anastasius Bibliothecarius’s writings. It also analyzes the Responsa Nicolae papae ad Consulta Bulgarorum, and Patriarch Photius’s letter to newbaptized Boris. The latter is studied taking into consideration its most recent exegetical interpretations.
