In Udine, on the top floor of a historic Art Nouveau building, is Gri and Zucchi's dry penthouse. The interior, already characterised by the glimpses of sky visible through the skylights and the urban panorama contained in the windows along the perimeter walls, is imagined as an open space delimited by functional diaphragms. The first visible diaphragm is the equipped monolith finished in Verde Alpi marble which dominates the scene in the living area and acts as a counterpoint to the natural diaphragm: the winter garden set at the furthest edge of the house as a filter immersed in greenery. The sleeping area is located in the residual portion of the attic and develops behind the marble diaphragm containing the kitchen and other equipped rooms. Here there is also a metal staircase giving access to a roof-top terrace to restore the relationship with the panorama and the skyline, without attempting to redesign them. In essence, DLN Penthouse condenses research into the essentiality and functionality of the interior space, which it succeeds in giving, through the use of a few diaphragmatic elements and a chromatic and material scale reduced to the bone, a minimal domesticity "warmed up" by the views of the city and the sky.
Ad Udine, all’ultimo piano di un palazzo storico in stile liberty, trova spazio l’asciutta penthouse di Gri e Zucchi. L’ambiente interno, già caratterizzato dagli squarci di cielo visibili dai lucernari e dal panorama urbano contenuto nelle finestre lungo le pareti perimetrali, è immaginato come un open space delimitato da diaframmi funzionali. Il primo diaframma visibile è il monolite attrezzato rifinito in marmo Verde Alpi che domina la scena della zona giorno e fa da contrappunto al diaframma naturale: il giardino di inverno disposto al limite più estremo della casa come filtro immerso nel verde. La zona notte trova spazio nella porzione residuale dell’attico e si sviluppa alle spalle del diaframma in marmo che contiene la cucina e altri vani attrezzati. Qui è disposta anche una scala metallica che dà accesso a un’altana ricavata sul tetto per recuperare il rapporto con il panorama e con la linea di cielo, senza avere la pretesa di ridisegnarli. In buona sostanza DLN Penthouse condensa una ricerca attenta all’essenzialità e alla funzionalità dello spazio interno a cui riesce a conferire, attraverso l’uso di pochi elementi diaframmatici e di una scala cromatica e materica ridotta all’osso, una domesticità minimale “riscaldata” dagli scorci urbani e di cielo.
