Recent archaeological investigations in Valle Sabbia in the territory of Brescia (Northern Italy) have led to the discovery of a new place of worship dating back to Roman times, probably built on a previous indigenous sanctuary. At Villanuova sul Clisi, on a panoramic hillock overlooking the entire Valle Sabbia and Lake Garda, several wall structures have emerged that define a complex structured on several levels, with a rectangular main compartment of about 11 x 4.20 m, built with large retaining walls on the summit plateau, and a series of annexed side structures. The materials recovered indicate frequentation from the first to the fourth century AD: in addition to coins, fibulae and ceramics, there are some materials inscribed with dedications to Iuppiter Aeternus.

Abstract
Recent archaeological investigations in Valle Sabbia in the territory of Brescia (Northern Italy) have led to the discovery of a new place of worship dating back to Roman times, probably built on a previous indigenous sanctuary. At Villanuova sul Clisi, on a panoramic hillock overlooking the entire Valle Sabbia and Lake Garda, several wall structures have emerged that define a complex structured on several levels, with a rectangular main compartment of about 11 x 4.20 m, built with large retaining walls on the summit plateau, and a series of annexed side structures. The materials recovered indicate frequentation from the first to the fourth century AD: in addition to coins, fibulae and ceramics, there are some materials inscribed with dedications to Iuppiter Aeternus.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
