Aim of this paper is to try to deepen the theme of the documentary value of productions, and in particular of the iconographic ones, in the analysis of social and cultural phenomena, such as those related to the elaboration of a “cultural memory” by an ancient community. In particular, we will focus on the case of the Achaean colonies of Magna Graecia, around which a debate has long been about the possible links with those that the ancient sources indicate as their countries of origin.
