The object of this analysis will be the Carabiniere in Grande Uniforme, a statue inaugurated in the ancient village of Taranto on July 10, 2014 by the municipality on the occasion of the two hundredth anniversary of the birth of the Corp. We are interested in analyzing the monument considering the side of a semiotics of culture; rather we believe that it is necessary to build a textual corpus that merges different elements. That is, a collection of items that entertain pertinent relationships between the emergence of social-cultural senses with what we might consider the starting text, the statue itself. This analysis tries to link different textual clues in order to build a meaningful set that aims at the reconstruction of the entire cultural phenomenon of the installation of the statue. More specifically, the aim of this paper is investigating the social and historical context in which the statue has been installed, the district of the ancient village, whose interconnection needs to be clarified in order to understand the meaningful effect of the installation of the statue. For this purpose, several elements are integrated into the corpus, to which different chapters are dedicated. In order there will be: the minutes of the city council in which the topic is discussed; the speech on the statue that emerges local newspaper articles that have given space to the news and the practice of the inauguration; and finally, the considerations of a citizens' committee and an attempt to resettle. The paper will conclude by setting out the final observations.
