The essay retraces the critical and visual reception of Dante’s work in Eighteenth-Nineteenth century England in the light of the political and cultural relations between Italy and England, focussing the attention on the role played by the Italian political refugees and by British writers and artists resident in Italy in the period following the Congress of Vienna.
