L’università nell’immaginario degli artisti contemporanei: esempi e confronti di interventi contestuali

Overcoming the notion of site-specificity, a number of artists have intervened in the Roman university campus, mindful of the institutional, social, cultural and historical context. From their contextual interventions, in fact, there emerge philosophical themes, references to freedom of thought, the constitution and transmission of knowledge, the overcoming of limits, and the construction of the past as well as the future. When compared with similar artistic interventions on other university campuses, this galaxy of themes produces a sort of symbolic identity of the university itself, one produced outside the scientific community. Sometimes, this identity is permeated by current events; at other times, however, it is imbued with a strong utopian impulse redolent of the highest civic ideals.
