It is well known that cardiovascular diseases are the primary cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. In consequence of AMI, there is a major loss of cardiomyocytes, which can lead to a variable grade of cardiac failure. AMI is uncommon in women during fertile age, but a pregnancy can occur after the cardiovascular event, due to improvement of maternal cares and increased maternal age. We would speculate on the possible positive role of pregnancy on damaged cardiomyocytes in women who had suffered from acute myocardial infarction (AMI). In particular, in a small series of cases we observed an improvement of the left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) after delivery if compared to that prior pregnancy.

Abstract
It is well known that cardiovascular diseases are the primary cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. In consequence of AMI, there is a major loss of cardiomyocytes, which can lead to a variable grade of cardiac failure. AMI is uncommon in women during fertile age, but a pregnancy can occur after the cardiovascular event, due to improvement of maternal cares and increased maternal age. We would speculate on the possible positive role of pregnancy on damaged cardiomyocytes in women who had suffered from acute myocardial infarction (AMI). In particular, in a small series of cases we observed an improvement of the left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) after delivery if compared to that prior pregnancy.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
