This work first of all gives a concise overview of the software, applications and functionalities that have recently been developed within the GIS context, as support to urban planning and design and geographical studies aimed at the analysis of the transformations registered in zones of high building density. It then focuses attention on the case of Rome and on a specific study area which over recent decades has been subject to considerable changes and a rapid growth of artificial surfaces. A number of GIS elaborations are therefore shown, obtained by means of the integration of data and cartographic and satellite sources and by extrusion techniques for the three‑dimensional modelling of the components. Multiple georeferenced layers are merged into this modelling, aimed at territorial screenings that can act as support for analyses and planning policies, and the results to be drawn can be applied to the detailed study of: the buildings classification; the features and heterogeneity of the area; the temporal sequences of rapid growth of the components; the main critical areas and, at the same time, the alternative directions in which to move.

Abstract
This work first of all gives a concise overview of the software, applications and functionalities that have recently been developed within the GIS context, as support to urban planning and design and geographical studies aimed at the analysis of the transformations registered in zones of high building density. It then focuses attention on the case of Rome and on a specific study area which over recent decades has been subject to considerable changes and a rapid growth of artificial surfaces. A number of GIS elaborations are therefore shown, obtained by means of the integration of data and cartographic and satellite sources and by extrusion techniques for the three‑dimensional modelling of the components. Multiple georeferenced layers are merged into this modelling, aimed at territorial screenings that can act as support for analyses and planning policies, and the results to be drawn can be applied to the detailed study of: the buildings classification; the features and heterogeneity of the area; the temporal sequences of rapid growth of the components; the main critical areas and, at the same time, the alternative directions in which to move.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
