The paper aims to present the peculiarities, objectives, and innovative character of the Piedmontese project “Sapere digitale. Educazione civica digitale in biblioteca” with particular attention to the design and results of the field research phase. The mixed-methods approach was used to achieve the research objectives: inquiring about Piedmont’s territorial context in terms of digital skills and tools and understanding the librarians feeling towards the digital environment. The research has made it possible to identify a series of infrastructural and training gaps in Piedmont libraries’ digital field, but it has also demonstrated the relevance and role that projects such as Sapere Digitale could play for our libraries and society.
