The article examines Il male non dimentica, the last book of Roberto Costantini’s Trilogia del male. It’s a thriller that takes place between Rome and Tripoli and reflects the complex history that connects these two cities, starting from the Italian colonization in 1911 until today. The novel analyses the relationships between Italy and Libya in the colonial and postcolonial period, and discovers the hidden truth of the Italian colonial past. Il male non dimentica deals with several topics as, for example, Gaddafi’s ascent to power and his fall, political corruption, economic interests, oil discovery and the expulsion of all Italians from Libya in 1970. The aim of Costantini’s work is to investigate the role of memory as well as the development of postcolonial conscience related to the identity issue.
