Liposomes can be used to entrap the enzymes and to obtain a catalytic complex useful for biotechnological and biomedical applications. Activity and properties of this complex depend on the properties of the enzyme itself and of the liposomial structure; therefore a deep knowledge of enzyme and lipid bilayer biophysics can allow us to design the liposome formulation rationally. In this review, we first report about the main physico-chemical properties of liposomes, then we show how these properties affect the kinetics of the processes catalyzed by enzyme loaded liposomes; finally, we review some interesting application of such a system.

Abstract
Liposomes can be used to entrap the enzymes and to obtain a catalytic complex useful for biotechnological and biomedical applications. Activity and properties of this complex depend on the properties of the enzyme itself and of the liposomial structure; therefore a deep knowledge of enzyme and lipid bilayer biophysics can allow us to design the liposome formulation rationally. In this review, we first report about the main physico-chemical properties of liposomes, then we show how these properties affect the kinetics of the processes catalyzed by enzyme loaded liposomes; finally, we review some interesting application of such a system.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
