The contribution will illustrate the training course in ‘Restoration of old parks and gardens’ which has been held at the School of Specialisation in Architectural Heritage and the Landscape, Sapienza University of Rome, since the Academic Year 2013-2014. The course objective is to provide students the tools required to develop excellent professional expertise in a field in which Italy lags behind other European countries. The course is considered as the core of a cultural system which includes the gradual development of a specialised library, research activities, the translation of specialist texts, and the creation of an international network. The theoretical and practical training focuses on fifteen fundamental subjects: these disciplinary fields help students gain the knowledge required by a designer to develop a sustainable product, in other words a product that does not loose its characteristics when verified during specialist collaborations. As part of a carefully planned and structured didactic course, the goal of each educational field is to always safeguard the freedom of the student who, after learning the necessary skills, knowledge and techniques, is able to make his own choices regarding a restoration project.

Abstract
As part of a carefully planned and structured didactic course, the goal of each educational field is to always safeguard the freedom of the student who, after learning the necessary skills, knowledge and techniques, is able to make his own choices regarding a restoration project.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
