The essay focuses on the anti-erotic and misogynist argument in the section of Matfre Ermengaud’s Breviari d’Amor inspired by Genesis. The aim is to demonstrate that in the narrative of the Fall of Adam and Eve and their expulsion from the Garden of Eden the Occitan author draws on the teachings of Augustine and in particular capitalizes on his knowledge of the De Genesi ad litteram.
