NOVELTY - Filtering system comprises filters consisting of fibers of siliceous material silanized with specific silica and oxide group. The chemical characteristics of the silylating agents lead to obtain a filter allowing the retention of semivolatile organic compounds from liquid and aeriform matrices. The filtering system is capable of simultaneously retain organic compounds from liquid and aeriform matrices in order to obtain an environmental sampling with high efficiency. The filtering system is capable of retaining semivolatile organic compounds from aeriform matrices together with particulate matter, or organic compounds from liquid matrices; show improved performances, because they have a high sampling efficiency even with high fluxes of sampled fluid so that it is possible to sample with higher flow rates, thus reducing the limit of detection for a given sampling time, or reducing the sampling time for a given limit of detection. The filtering system differ from the stationary phases used in chromatography columns because they are not functionalized flat surfaces, spherical or capillary, but they are fibers so to obtain filters capable of retaining the organic compounds from mixed phases; modified and implemented the functionalization reaction in order to allow the fibers to react more effectively and in order to bind the maximum possible quantity of organic groups.

Abstract

NOVELTY - Filtering system comprises filters consisting of fibers of siliceous material silanized with specific silica and oxide group. USE - For the simultaneous sampling of organic compounds in liquid and aeriform matrices; in device for environmental sampling for sampling pollutants in a sample of air by using the device (all claimed); for environmental sampling e.g. pollutants; for sampling and purification of organic compounds. ADVANTAGE - The filtering systems allow to extract concurrently the organic compounds in fluids, by using single filtering and adsorbing system, requiring less time and less amount of extracting solvent; are disposable avoiding risks of contamination, are very less bulky and easier to be used in automated sampling systems, are less hygroscopic so that they can be weighed very easily to determinate the mass of total particulate matter.
