Among the main differences between the various recensions of Cassiodorus’ "Institutiones saeculares" (the so-called Ω, Φ, and Δ textual forms), diagrams prove to be an element of great interest. This essay is devoted to the analysis of ΦΔ schemata transmitted within non-Cassiodorean interpolated texts. Among them, it focuses on the diagrammatic representation of syllogisms, of the "divisio philosophiae", and of the relationship between numbers. Since the ΦΔ recensions most probably descend from an archetype from Vivarium, their testimony provides new evidence for the Late-Antique origin of similar "schemata" within scientific texts.

Abstract
Among the main differences between the various recensions of Cassiodorus’ "Institutiones saeculares" (the so-called Ω, Φ, and Δ textual forms), diagrams prove to be an element of great interest. This essay is devoted to the analysis of ΦΔ schemata transmitted within non-Cassiodorean interpolated texts. Among them, it focuses on the diagrammatic representation of syllogisms, of the "divisio philosophiae", and of the relationship between numbers. Since the ΦΔ recensions most probably descend from an archetype from Vivarium, their testimony provides new evidence for the Late-Antique origin of similar "schemata" within scientific texts.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
