This essay, dedicated to the theory of "symbolic forms", focuses above all on the concept of the symbol as developed, on the philosophical level, by Ernest Cassirer and on that of the history of myth, religion and art by Aby Warburg. It is a conception that gnoseologically enhances the symbolic structure as a dimension in some ways abstract from the social order from which it draws, however, expression, and independent of the social institutions within which its formation process is defined. But this does not mean that it is of less interest in sociological reflection, since it allows us to rethink how, under certain historical-social conditions, a conceptualization of knowledge, remodeled according to the schemes of neo-Kantian philosophy, has somehow responded to the need to contain through the abstract "forms" of the constructive processes of reason the "informal" drives promoted by "vitalistic" philosophies aimed at giving immediate expression to political and social demands of a strong "irrationalistic" matrix.

Abstract
This essay, dedicated to the theory of "symbolic forms", focuses above all on the concept of the symbol as developed, on the philosophical level, by Ernest Cassirer and on that of the history of myth, religion and art by Aby Warburg. It is a conception that gnoseologically enhances the symbolic structure as a dimension in some ways abstract from the social order from which it draws, however, expression, and independent of the social institutions within which its formation process is defined. But this does not mean that it is of less interest in sociological reflection, since it allows us to rethink how, under certain historical-social conditions, a conceptualization of knowledge, remodeled according to the schemes of neo-Kantian philosophy, has somehow responded to the need to contain through the abstract "forms" of the constructive processes of reason the "informal" drives promoted by "vitalistic" philosophies aimed at giving immediate expression to political and social demands of a strong "irrationalistic" matrix.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
