A joint team of Kurdish and Italian researchers led by the author of this contribution works since 2006 at the Pāikūlī Monument in the Kurdish-Iraqi province of Sulaymāniya. It was erected by the will of King Narseh in the area, located on the north-eastern borders of the province of Asōrestān, in which he received an oath of allegiance from a delegation of nobles and dignitaries of the Ērānšahr once he ascended the Sassanid throne following the victory in Armenia over Wahrām III. The Kurdish-Italian team analyzed the monument from different points of view - archaeological, historical, epigraphic, etc. - and at the same time extended its attention to the surrounding territories in both a synchronic and a diachronic sense. The Project saw the light at the initiative of the Agency Italian for development cooperation in the field of cultural heritage in post-war Iraq, and was initially placed under the aegis of IsIAO. Following the liquidation of the Institute, the patronage of the Mission passed to the Department of Ancient Sciences of "Sapienza University of Rome", in the wake of which it still operates in collaboration with ISMEO and the Soudavar Foundation.
Abstract
Following the liquidation of the Institute, the patronage of the Mission passed to the Department of Ancient Sciences of "Sapienza University of Rome", in the wake of which it still operates in collaboration with ISMEO and the Soudavar Foundation.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
