Storicità dell'architettura moderna: tutela e rigenerazione delle architetture olivettiane a Ivrea

The recent candidature of the architecture and districts of the Olivetti company in Ivrea to the UNESCO World Heritage List once again spurs debate on what it means to valorise and conserve the Modern in the transformation and regeneration of contemporary cities. A theme that was dealt with in the city regulatory plan in 2002, giving rise to a series of activities and initiatives to prepare the candidature, constituting a test-bed on the importance and feasibility of the conservation of modern heritage. The Ivrea plan was, in fact, the first attempt to gradually unite an innovative urbanistic conservation process with activities aimed at encouraging a common sentiment towards the safeguarding of a unique modern heritage, with the awareness that any activity aimed at conserving such a vast, varied and original heritage should be supported with projects of widespread sensitization, so that said sentiment becomes gradually rooted in the local, technical and collective mind-set.
