The right to the city" (New Urban Agenda, 2016) and fighting climate change (Paris Agreement, 2015) seem to have defined, at the global and national level, a turning point in the policies and strategies concerning cities. In this regard, the paper illustrates a sustainable regeneration process set up to respond to a H2020 call which, in the absence of funding, is transformed into a low-cost process. The change in financial availability did not result in changes to the guiding vision of the research: an ecological city model based on conviviality and on the use of digital tools aimed at improving citizen awareness and empowerment by using PPGIS and Citizen Science techniques. As a matter of fact, Horizon 2020 represented an excellent stress-test to trigger visions and planning and to deal with the an intense local reality.
