Hospital infections arise during hospitalization, 48 hours after entering the ward, or following the patient’s discharge, and are not manifested clinically or in incubation upon admission (1). The main cause of healthcare-related infections is hospital staff or the care setting itself (2). WHO considers hand hygiene, through social or antiseptic washing of the same, fundamental in prevention; however, two aspects of this procedure deserve an in-depth study, in order to understand whether they have direct responsibility for the transmission of infections: the use of jewelry and the application of nail polish by protagonists of the care, in particular nurses.

Abstract
Hospital infections arise during hospitalization, 48 hours after entering the ward, or following the patient’s discharge, and are not manifested clinically or in incubation upon admission (1). The main cause of healthcare-related infections is hospital staff or the care setting itself (2). WHO considers hand hygiene, through social or antiseptic washing of the same, fundamental in prevention; however, two aspects of this procedure deserve an in-depth study, in order to understand whether they have direct responsibility for the transmission of infections: the use of jewelry and the application of nail polish by protagonists of the care, in particular nurses.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
