In 1821 pope Pius VII destined the use of his book collection to the Benedictine monastery of S. Maria del Monte of Cesena. Today the Pope’s library, belonging to the Italian state and kept in the Malatestiana Library of Cesena, looks like heterogeneous from the textual point of view: liturgical volumes, patristic texts, historiographical works and military treaties are placed next to each other on the Pope’s shelves.
