La biblioteca agostiniana di Santa Maria del Popolo negli scritti di Jean Matal

In the Rome of the sixteenth century, the convent of Santa Maria del Popolo stood out among the main Augustinian cultural centers of the city. Among the oldest descriptions of the consistency and composition of this library there is the inventory compiled around 1545 by the French jurist and humanist Jean Matal. This description is included in the ms. Additional 565 of the University Library of Cambridge. The morphology of the Augustinian book collection of Santa Maria del Popolo which emerges from the pen of the French jurist and which still remains decidedly current for what is still preserved in the Biblioteca Angelica in Rome, is that of a library mainly characterized by the volumes of legal sciences.
