Appunti sulla semiotica delle relazioni stratigrafiche di Gerico Neolitica

The following work attempts to propose a reinterpretation of the stratigraphic sequences, obtained from K. Kenyon at Jericho, the relevant phases of the transition process neolithization from the Natufian period PPNB. In view of this writer, however, the object of investigation is only the most suitable frame to circumscribe a framework of methodological issues related in the first instance, to the world of semantic relations between stratigraphic analysis and interpretation of archaeological contexts. An issue of epistemological order, therefore, common to many, working in the world of archeology, poses problems concerning the morphology knowledge of their discipline. Pursuing this work I did not have the intention to overcome the barriers which divide history from the prehistoric archeology, providing interpretations that would have been if random oriented typological or comparative analysis on the material culture of the Neolithic in Palestine, I have attempted rather to a profile of interpretive possibilities that the stratigraphic sequence of deposits at Neolithic Jericho allows for the limits that such a transaction involves when you go to the stage of the interpretations, and finally the resistance and suggestions that a given phenomenon "including" casts a long time after the its formulation. After all that remains of an excavation is nothing but the interpretation is something that was given: it and it just goes into the pages of history.

Il lavoro che segue tenta di proporre una rilettura delle sequenze stratigrafiche, ottenute da K. Kenyon a Gerico, attinenti le fasi di passaggio del processo di neolitizzazione dal periodo Natufiano al PPNB. Nell’ottica di chi scrive tuttavia tale oggetto d’indagine rappresenta solo la cornice maggiormente confacente a circoscrivere un quadro di problematiche metodologiche connesse, in prima istanza, al mondo delle relazioni semantiche che intercorre tra analisi stratigrafica e interpretazione dei contesti archeologici. Una tematica d’ordine epistemologico dunque, che accomuna quanti, lavorando nel mondo dell’archeologia, si pongono problemi inerenti la morfologia conoscitiva della propria disciplina. Perseguendo questo intento non ho avuto l’intenzione di superare le barriere che dividono l’archeologia storica da quella preistorica, fornendo interpretazioni che sarebbero state casuali se orientate ad un’analisi tipologica o comparativa sulla cultura materiale del Neolitico in Palestina; ho tentato piuttosto di definire un profilo delle possibilità interpretative che la successione stratigrafica dei depositi neolitici a Gerico consente, dei limiti che una tale operazione comporta quando si passa alla fase delle interpretazioni, infine delle resistenze e suggestioni che, un dato fenomeno “compreso” proietta molto tempo dopo la sua formulazione. In fondo quello che rimane di uno scavo è nulla se non l’interpretazione che n’è stata data: essa e solo essa entra nelle pagine della storia.
