The temple of Hercules Musarum represents an archaeological issue in many respects. We know neither its precise date of construction, nor its architectural configuration. In both cases these are problems that have important implications, not only with regard to the monument, but more generally for a better understanding of the historical context in which it was built. This article begins with a new analysis of the different sources of information on the monumental complex, with special regard to the relevant archaeological remains, and proposes a new hypothesis on its architectural form and the problems connected to it.

Abstract
The temple of Hercules Musarum represents an archaeological issue in many respects. We know neither its precise date of construction, nor its architectural configuration. In both cases these are problems that have important implications, not only with regard to the monument, but more generally for a better understanding of the historical context in which it was built. This article begins with a new analysis of the different sources of information on the monumental complex, with special regard to the relevant archaeological remains, and proposes a new hypothesis on its architectural form and the problems connected to it.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
