This project targets SCC-02-2017: Demonstrating innovative nature-based solutions in cities, facing particularly the specific challenge given by city neighbourhoods suffering from marginality (social and urban) and lack of quality and of good connections, located in the inner urban neighbourhoods as well as in the outskirts and within public housing neighbourhoods. The general objective of GREENSHAPE is the development, deployment and validation of co-designed and co-implemented nature-based solutions and social innovation for updating and implementing the urban Plans of two districts -II and IV Municipio- in ROME and SERAING (front runner cities) and to assist the follower cities of IASI (Romania), Roubaix (France) and Nowy Dwòr Gdan'ski (Poland) in adopting the same, duly customized, methodology in their urban plans that will be developed during the project lifetime. International cooperation involves the Municipality of Teheran and a further follower Chinese city (Chongqing municipal government): the latter will be carried out within the context of the EU-China Sustainable Urbanisation Partnership and the EU-China Innovation Dialogue GREENSHAPE will adopt an innovative technology TRL 7 for pre-cultivating plants (already demonstrated in an operational environment by the partner Tuscia University during an FP7 project TRL 7) allowing to obtain plants and trees with specific enhanced characteristics for their scope (green barriers, biodiversity conservation, pollution reduction, riparian protection, etc.) Further, GREENSHAPE will use innovative multi-layer textile-based substrates for optimised water and nutrient dosing to the plants. A specific tool developed by the partner A+S will allow an easy use of such innovative nature-based solutions, by allowing the two front runner cities to update their already existing plans in an user-friendly and effective way. This tool will directly interact with a specific data platform and with monitoring scheme, in order to provide a continuous assessment of the project progresses, as well as to facilitate the future development of the same methodology in the follower cities.
