The purpose of this study is to evaluate the risk of complicated bereavement in relatives of terminally ill patients, admitted to the hospice, in order to plan psychological interventions. The assessment tool used was the Parkes and Weiss’s “Bereavement Risk Index”. The sample consisted of 215 family members and showed high risk in 113, medium risk in 57 and low risk in 45. The study showed a statistically significant difference related to gender and role (caregiver/not caregiver) in emotional reactions, self evaluation of risk and personal resources, and request of psychological help. Eighty-five out of 113 relatives with high risk score accessed to only one psychological interview avoiding further support.

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the risk of complicated bereavement in relatives of terminally ill patients, admitted to the hospice, in order to plan psychological interventions. The assessment tool used was the Parkes and Weiss’s “Bereavement Risk Index”. The sample consisted of 215 family members and showed high risk in 113, medium risk in 57 and low risk in 45. The study showed a statistically significant difference related to gender and role (caregiver/not caregiver) in emotional reactions, self evaluation of risk and personal resources, and request of psychological help. Eighty-five out of 113 relatives with high risk score accessed to only one psychological interview avoiding further support.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
