Abstract

Metropolization processes and indiscriminate land consumption have lead to negative effects on more than half of the national territory and in particular on the most usable areas in terms of urbanization, the coastal areas. As place of transition, of contamination between water and land, in which the natural and anthropic elements become more delicate and complex, this particular landscape can represent an essential contribution in the construction of new regeneration paths. Territorial regeneration is, in fact, the expression of an integrated strategy aimed at responding to environmental, social, economic and cultural issues affecting contemporary territories, through the experimentation of new methodological and operational references, shared internationally (Convention on Biological Diversity, Rio 1992; European Landscape Convention, 2000; Millennium Ecosystem Assessment, 2005) and based on the concepts of sustainability, biodiversity and resilience. Along the southern part of the Lazio coast, between the Delta of the Garigliano River and the Riviera di Ulisse Natural Park a regeneration project takes the opportunity to enhance the natural vocation of the territory through the construction of new public spaces, eco-sustainable tourism services, low environmental and energy impact interventions. In this way demonstrating how the natural and cultural heritage is the expression of a material and immaterial as an indispensable value for the communities well-being.
