This article presents an analysis of "Life and adventures" by Dositej Obradović. This work is situated in the context of the formation and rise of modern autobiography in the 18th century, and is seen in the light of some working definitions of autobiography as a genre. The article aims at examining and establishing the innermost nature of Dositej’s work, which is characterised by a particular relationship among concrete purposes and literary aspirations.
