(An investigation of the association between depression and compliance to treatment in people with diabetes. Sant’Andrea Hospital Rome, Italy, 2018-2019) - Diabetes is one of the most common and challenging chronic diseases, which affects over three million people in Italy (Istat Report 2016). Depression is a serious condition associated with diabetes worse symptoms and compliance to treatment. The present study aims at testing the relationship between depression and compliance to treatment in a convenience sample of patients with diabetes. One hundred and nine patients with diabetes (n. 48 type 1, n. 61 type 2) were enrolled and completed the tests for measuring depression (Beck Depression Inventory - II) and adherence to treatment (Morisky Scale and Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities). Descriptive and correlation analysis were performed. Results showed a negative correlation between depression and diabetes self-care (r = - 0,33; p <0,01) in both somatic-affective (r = - 0,25; p <0,05) and cognitive component (r = - 0,40; p <0,01). Data confirmed the potential negative consequences of depression on compliance to treatment and in particular on self-care behaviors
