This work presents a detailed study of the influence of the synthesis parameters on the nanopowder-catalyzed CNT sponge production. Through electrochemical and absorption analyses, the sponges indicated a low resistivity (4.8x10 −3 Ω m), capacitive behavior, very good cyclability and an elevated capacity of absorption of non-polar fluids (∼16 g/g). The polar character of the structure was easily modified by acid treatment allowing its further application in polar solutions. The produced sponge could be a practical tool for the recovery of water sources contaminated by non-polar substances. Additionally, it is a promising electrode in electrochemical processes with both polar and non-polar electrolytes.
