In the last two decades alone, more than 3 million people have died in natural disasters caused by extreme weather resulting from global warming and atmospheric changes. To face the growth of such widespread emergencies, humanitarian actors are re-structuring their response strategies. This paper introduces the concept of agile supply chain to focus on the role, strategies and management of humanitarian logistics providers. It produces a taxonomy so to identify the characteristics of the emergency supply chain (ESC). The model is substantiated by a case study drawn upon the best practices of the UN World Food Programme: WFP intervention in Sudan-Darfur.

Abstract
In the last two decades alone, more than 3 million people have died in natural disasters caused by extreme weather resulting from global warming and atmospheric changes. To face the growth of such widespread emergencies, humanitarian actors are re-structuring their response strategies. This paper introduces the concept of agile supply chain to focus on the role, strategies and management of humanitarian logistics providers. It produces a taxonomy so to identify the characteristics of the emergency supply chain (ESC). The model is substantiated by a case study drawn upon the best practices of the UN World Food Programme: WFP intervention in Sudan-Darfur.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
