La vocazione commerciale della pianura a nord di Bologna. Primi dati sulle anfore dall'insediamento rurale di Maccaretolo (BO)

This research presents the first data about a group of amphorae found during trench excavations carried out in the 2000s in Maccaretolo, about 30 km north of Bologna, Italy. The structural evidences and the archaeological findings discovered in an area of 4 acres, suggested the presence of a vicus, a rural settlement dedicated to commerce and manufacturing, located close to fluvial and terrestrial routes. These unpublished results open a new perspective on the site’s history, its trading system, the products types and the economic relationships that involved Bononia and its territory between the 1st and 3rd-4th centuries AD.
