While peer groups are crucial in the process of socialization to music, even for new generations grown up with interactive digital media music represents a primary medium for communication and self-expression. Such technologies allow young people to articulate in original ways the two processes: socialization to music and the use of music as an affective and cultural medium for social action. On the one hand, they put young people on the forefront in the promotion and exploitation of music involved in their socialization. On the other hand, they seem to support the privatization of sociability that guide both socialization and the appropriation of music involved in it. These trends are analyzed through an overview of the uses of different web applications, based on international studies and research: musical newsgroup and forum, peer-to-peer architectures adopted for file-sharing, web 2.0 applications

Abstract
While peer groups are crucial in the process of socialization to music, even for new generations grown up with interactive digital media music represents a primary medium for communication and self-expression. Such technologies allow young people to articulate in original ways the two processes: socialization to music and the use of music as an affective and cultural medium for social action. On the one hand, they put young people on the forefront in the promotion and exploitation of music involved in their socialization. On the other hand, they seem to support the privatization of sociability that guide both socialization and the appropriation of music involved in it. These trends are analyzed through an overview of the uses of different web applications, based on international studies and research: musical newsgroup and forum, peer-to-peer architectures adopted for file-sharing, web 2.0 applicationsFile | Dimensione | Formato | |
