In the realm of Greek epigraphy there are inscriptions that are incomplete or imperfect or provisional. This is usually the result of various factors, which depend both on technical aspects and on the very modes of communication inherent to the epigraphic practice. Inscriptions cannot always be considered as finalized texts, as even after its publication, an epigraphic text can be subject to modifications, additions, corrections, and effacements. In the present paper, these and other related aspects will be considered through a few examples selected from the large corpus of Greek inscriptions.

Abstract
In the realm of Greek epigraphy there are inscriptions that are incomplete or imperfect or provisional. This is usually the result of various factors, which depend both on technical aspects and on the very modes of communication inherent to the epigraphic practice. Inscriptions cannot always be considered as finalized texts, as even after its publication, an epigraphic text can be subject to modifications, additions, corrections, and effacements. In the present paper, these and other related aspects will be considered through a few examples selected from the large corpus of Greek inscriptions.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
