The reuse of the ancient architectures needs an organic approach to the pre-existence. The project, in other words, must be the result of a decoding process suitable to frame in a nonself qualities of each of the parts that compose the historical building, but must also be suitable to check a priori that the graft of new elements does not alter the set starting structure. Only in this case the innovations introducted in existing architectures can actually be considered as positive developments, therefore, a progress for building. The energy retrofit requires the adaptation of the existing to new performance standards. So this implies the transfer to pre-industrial buildings of new products and technologies to improve comfort levels. This, also claims as design support, a series of checks. The role of compatibility in this process is essential. Compatibility, in fact, directly and indirectly, creates a dense system of circuits: states actors, tools and flows. Identifies ways to interpret a situation and provides the scalability parameters.
