The paper deals with connections between the sense of sight and the location of sites in the southern Levant in the Early Bronze I and IV. The application of sensory studies to the southern Levant in the pre- and proto-historic periods is complicated by limits in the documentation available from this region compared to other areas, in particular, the lack of written sources. However, it will be argued that this type of research may have an impact in the study of this region in pre- and protohistoric periods and open new perspectives on past human-environment interactions in this particular area of the Near East.

Abstract

The paper deals with connections between the sense of sight and the location of sites in the southern Levant in the Early Bronze I and IV. The application of sensory studies to the southern Levant in the pre- and proto-historic periods is complicated by limits in the documentation available from this region compared to other areas, in particular, the lack of written sources. However, it will be argued that this type of research may have an impact in the study of this region in pre- and protohistoric periods and open new perspectives on past human-environment interactions in this particular area of the Near East.
