The article proposes a review of the thought and work of Luigi Vietti (leading exponent of Italian Rationalism, then author of numerous domestic architectures, especially in Sardinia and on the Alps), through the presentation of an important realized project of him: the Villla La Roccia at Cannobio on the Lago Maggiore, 1936. Vietti moves from a previous model, the “Villa su roccia a sperone”, designed with a promotional target, published in 1932 on Domus Magazine as well as exposed in several Rational Architecture events. He evolves, between 1930 and 1936, the rigorous initial conception in relation to the site, through a topological reasoning. By means of a critical interpretation, and updating the teaching message, the article poses in evidence that, in Vietti's work, the interest in the foundations of nascent architecture (he participated in major founding events of the period between the Two World Wars) with the link to tradition, both contextual and disciplinary, manage to coexist in an often exemplary way.

Abstract
By means of a critical interpretation, and updating the teaching message, the article poses in evidence that, in Vietti's work, the interest in the foundations of nascent architecture (he participated in major founding events of the period between the Two World Wars) with the link to tradition, both contextual and disciplinary, manage to coexist in an often exemplary way.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
