Ciprofloxacin has commonly been recommended as chemoprophylaxis to prevent the spread of meningococcal meningitis outbreaks. Although ciprofloxacin resistance of Neisseria meningitidis has been reported as sporadic cases, the proportion of resistance remains and described worldwide. In Italy, antimicrobial susceptibility is routinely performed within the Surveillance System of Invasive Meningococcal Disease (IMD). Herein, we described the molecular characterization and clinic of an imported IMD case due to a serogroup B ciprofloxacin-resistant N. meningitidis strain.

Abstract
Ciprofloxacin has commonly been recommended as chemoprophylaxis to prevent the spread of meningococcal meningitis outbreaks. Although ciprofloxacin resistance of Neisseria meningitidis has been reported as sporadic cases, the proportion of resistance remains and described worldwide. In Italy, antimicrobial susceptibility is routinely performed within the Surveillance System of Invasive Meningococcal Disease (IMD). Herein, we described the molecular characterization and clinic of an imported IMD case due to a serogroup B ciprofloxacin-resistant N. meningitidis strain.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
