From the mid-nineteenth century onwards, the strong momentum that industrialization has produced within the architecture has led to a strong development of the prefabricated systems. These systems have not always found a concrete application in reality. In this article we will try to support how prefabrication architecture is a tale of necessity and desires through the comparison of two different systems of prefabrication: prefabricated component system and modular homes. While the former has developed, over time, around a real social need, the latter has developed around social ideal and was never able to take root in society and industry.
