The work focuses on the etymology and distribution of lexical types indicating 'hiccups' in Italian and central-southern dialects and is divided into three parts. In the first one, it gives an account of the Italian forms 'singhiozzo', 'singhiozzare' and their ancient and modern corradicals, retracing the history of these lexical types starting from their Latin antecedents. Then we proceed to investigate the diffusion of the coetimological types in the diversity of the results attested in the dialects of central-southern Italy, identifying the other related types. Finally, in giving an account of the forms identified, we dwell on an unexpected outcome of GL, of which we discuss the explanatory hypotheses so far presented. Therefore, it was intended to reproduce the typical progression of each article of LEI, starting from Italian, continuing with the analysis of dialectal forms and finally arriving at defining the issue in a broader perspective.

Abstract
Therefore, it was intended to reproduce the typical progression of each article of LEI, starting from Italian, continuing with the analysis of dialectal forms and finally arriving at defining the issue in a broader perspective.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
