The paper presents a research study about potential alteration of the natural levels of darkness of the night sky by lighting of recreation grounds by typical opal glass luminaires equipped with HPS and Super HPS (high pressure sodium), MH (metal halide), LED (light emitting diode) lamps. The opal glass sphere luminaire under consideration was placed on different types of grounds: asphalt, concrete, soil, grass, snow. Into calculations of sky glow relative level were taken luminaire intensity curve, spectral properties of ground and spectral power distributions of light sources. The results shows that switching in opal glass outdoor lighting installation light sources from HPS to cold LED could increase almost twice the sky glow.
