The two medical treatises Praecepta and De decenti habitu, probably written around the first century AD, rank among the latest works of the large collection of medical texts called Corpus Hippocraticum. They collect ethical rules directed to students of medicine. The article first analyses the indirect tradition of these treatises, then it focuses on what ancient readers could have perceived as “Hippocratic” in them. In fact, both the Praecepta and De decenti habitu seem to include medical precepts that in Antiquity were ascribed to the idealized figure of Hippocrates. As far as the Praecepta are concerned, their author also reworked sentences taken from the most famous “Hippocratic” writings.

Abstract
The two medical treatises Praecepta and De decenti habitu, probably written around the first century AD, rank among the latest works of the large collection of medical texts called Corpus Hippocraticum. They collect ethical rules directed to students of medicine. The article first analyses the indirect tradition of these treatises, then it focuses on what ancient readers could have perceived as “Hippocratic” in them. In fact, both the Praecepta and De decenti habitu seem to include medical precepts that in Antiquity were ascribed to the idealized figure of Hippocrates. As far as the Praecepta are concerned, their author also reworked sentences taken from the most famous “Hippocratic” writings.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
