Literature has hitherto devoted little attention to the role and to the practices of women journalists working in online environments. While specific literature appears to be insufficient, a comprehensive conceptual framework can be built elaborating on both literature on gender and digital media, and on journalism studies adopting a gender perspective. Based on such a framework, the article illustrates the results of an exploratory research focusing on Italian online female journalists. Both similarities and differences between online journalism and «traditional» journalistic practices will be highlighted.

Abstract
Literature has hitherto devoted little attention to the role and to the practices of women journalists working in online environments. While specific literature appears to be insufficient, a comprehensive conceptual framework can be built elaborating on both literature on gender and digital media, and on journalism studies adopting a gender perspective. Based on such a framework, the article illustrates the results of an exploratory research focusing on Italian online female journalists. Both similarities and differences between online journalism and «traditional» journalistic practices will be highlighted.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
